The Ephemerid playing cards are the first playing cards project from accomplished label-maker and designer Fabien Barral, known to most as Mr. Cup. Launched through kickstarter in April of 2018, the Ephemerid campaign raised 43k euros in crowdfunding. The decks were delayed for quite some time before finally arriving in the hands of backers a year later in May 2019. The deck takes its main inspiration from the handcrafted turn of the 20th century line work most commonly associated with currency and government documents.

The decks were offered in two variants, a standard and a deluxe version. Both tuck cases feature the same overall design, but the standard version is primarily beige with black lettering and white accents printed on glossy card stock with embossing, and the deluxe version is printed on black matte card stock and features gold and white foil embossing.
